The retro market in 2026
The retro game market is constantly moving. Some platforms are rising hard, while others stagnate or even drop.
What's rising?
SNES and NES remain the most sought-after platforms. Games like EarthBound, Chrono Trigger, and Super Mario RPG rise annually. GameCube is the fastest-rising Nintendo platform. GBA games with boxes become increasingly rare.
What's stagnating?
PS2 games are plentiful but mostly low-value (exceptions: Rule of Rose, Haunting Ground). Wii games are oversaturated โ most are worth little. Xbox 360 is too recent for a nostalgia wave.
Genres doing well
- RPGs (Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Persona)
- Platformers (Nintendo classics)
- Survival horror (Resident Evil, Silent Hill)
- Fighting games (Super Smash Bros., Street Fighter)
